Rowing New Zealand is launching a national series of Masters Training Camps in 2026. They are now inviting clubs to express interest in hosting one of these weekend camps.

Camp Overview

Each camp will include:

• Four on-water sessions in big boats (more where possible)

• Erg and technical video analysis

• Education seminars

• Individual feedback for participants (videos)

Camps will cater for 16–24 masters rowers, grouped by ability. These initial camps are not designed for raw novices.

The Coaches..

The camps will be led by former RNZ coaches Duncan Holland and Raf Wyatt, both highly experienced across novice through to international level.

  • Duncan Holland is an experienced NZ and international rowing coach who has worked from novice through to elite level. Known for his technical clarity and crew boat expertise, he brings a practical, athlete-focused approach to every session.

  • Raf Wyatt is an experienced NZ and international rowing coach with a strong technical focus across sculling and sweep. She specialises in skill development, efficiency and sustainable performance for athletes at all levels.

What RNZ Will Provide

• National promotion

• Athlete registrations and coordination

• Programme design and delivery

• Camp leadership (Duncan & Raf)

What Host Clubs Will Provide

• Access to rowing facilities

• Suitable fleet (8+ and/or 4x-)

• Coaching launches and drivers

• Water safety cover

• Indoor space for ergs and seminars

Host clubs will receive a koha in recognition of the facilities, plant and volunteer support provided.

Clubs may also choose to provide catering as a fundraising opportunity and promote the camp locally.

In addition, this provides a valuable Coach development opportunity for club coaches, who may ride alongside Duncan and Raf to support their own coaching growth.
