Masters Rowing,

Fuelling the Next Generation

There's something special about the connection between masters rowers and the juniors coming up behind them. Masters keep clubs alive — and in doing so, they help create the conditions where young rowers can discover and fall in love with the sport. The Legion of Rowers takes that connection one step further.

Every year, membership dues and profits from our regattas go into a dedicated fund to help North Island Under 19 rowers represent New Zealand on the world stage.

Why does this matter ?

Competing internationally costs each young athlete upwards of $10,000. Rowing New Zealand contributes to these costs, but cannot cover everything. For many talented juniors, that funding gap is the difference between going and staying home.

The Legion has been bridging that gap for decades.

Every North Island rower selected for the NZ U19 squad is eligible to apply for support from our fund — because where a young rower comes from should never limit how far they can go.

You can be a part of this

When you join the Legion, your $40 annual membership joins a collective effort that has sent generations of young New Zealanders to compete with the best in the world. If you'd prefer to give directly, a donation of any size goes straight to the junior fund.

Either way, your contribution matters more than you might think.

Each year, we ask the under 19 rowers that benefitted from the Legion's support to summarize their time, learnings and enjoyment they had whilst participating in international training and competition for the first time.
